MY JOURNEY
This section is to presents my life path through my education, my experiences and the acquired skills.
My education
University of Strasbourg 2020-2024 :
2022-2023: After the obtainment of the licence in chemistry, I decided to do a master's in chemistry molecular, supramolecular and green chemistry. All the options I took in the 3rd year were leading to this choice. Moreover, as a part of my master's degree, I did an internship in the bioteam lab at ICPEES for Mix-Up project. (see MY PROJECTS)
2021-2022: My last licence's year allowed me to validate all my knowledge in chemistry. I notably did my option on green chemistry and material to have basis on these fields. In addition, I chose supramolecular because of my passion about chemistry and the way it works.
2020-2021: I join the University of Strasbourg in the second year in chemistry. I discovered a new city, a new way of teaching, but covid was still among us and most of the classes were online so it wasn't a friendly environment. I could compare the different subjects taught and learned things that I didn't really see in EPFL as electrochemistry.
University of Lausanne 2019-2020 :
During one semester, I joined the University of Lausanne in the first year of environmental science. It was a propebdotic year for geography, geology and environmental science. The classes were mostly social science classes (cartography, geography, environmental science...) and very few hard science classes.
Unfortunatly I didn't pass this semester. However, it made me realize how passionate I was about chemistry and how strong my will to continue in this field was.
During the second semester, covid-19 & the first lockdown hit. I took classes as a free auditor for 3 courses, one of them was the retrosynthesis project (see MY PROJECTS).
EPFL 2015-2019:
2018-2019: We had to choose a specialty, I went with chemistry over engineering chemistry. I couldn't pass two of last year's exams thus I failed the school. I learned that I needed to work on my organizational skills, my time managment and the way I focus & prioritize my work.
2017-2018: This year was focused on chemistry and engineering chemistry. We had classes on physic chemistry (Thermodynamic, kinetic, quantum chemistry...), on the introduction to engineering chemistry (transport phenomena, process engineering...) and on chemistry (Organic function and reaction, biochemistry, structural analysis, coordination, organometallic chemistry...).
2016-2017: I did the first year of my bachelor in chemistry and chemical engineering. It provided me with fundamentals in many different fields such as computing science (c, java), mathematics (analysis, algebra), physics and chemistry (inorganic, organic).
2015-2016: During this year I did the Mathematics special class (CMS) a propebdotic year at Engineering School of Lausanne. It brought me solid mathematics and physic knowledge.
High School Jeanne d'Arc 2012-2015 :
I obtained my baccalaureat with honors in 2015 at Jeanne d'Arc high school in Gex.
My experiences
Internship in plastic recycling
Within the framework of the Mix-Up project (MIXed plastics biodegradation and UPcycling using microbial communities), I carried out a 4-month internship where I set up a synthesis pathway to obtain a new molecule. The latter is synthesised from predominantly biobased components obtained from the enzymatic degradation of plastics. It is then integrated into a polyurethane in order to carry out reversible cross-linking in a photochemical manner. In order to obtain a plastic plate at the end of the project, the quantities to be synthesised were large and therefore required simple purification methods. This information had to be taken into account when setting up the synthesis pathway for the desired product. In addition to using my knowledge of chemistry, I was able to develop new skills in materials synthesis and its various characterisation methods.
Education
During my years of study, I have done various jobs in the field of pedagogy. Indeed, I have been a tutor and I have given courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry for high school students in a training centre (CFPAE). I was also a mathematics assistant for first year students at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Moreover, for 6 months I have been leading chemistry experiments for children aged between 7 and 12 years old (X-lab). I have also participated in science festivals as a workshop leader in physics and algorithmic mathematics with children aged 10 to 14.
All these experiences have given me many skills. I was able to develop my ability to popularise and teach, my patience and my stress management.
Service
Since I was 15 years old, I have gained a lot of experience in service. I started working in a hotel restaurant as a waiter, dishwasher or receptionist (Geneve cottage). I have been part of the staff of several festivals. I was also a guard at Lausanne Cathedral, where I had to provide security and give tours of the cathedral's basement. Finally, I participated a lot in the associative life of EPFL with positions of responsibility such as catering manager, treasurer, vice-president and president which allowed me to lead teams, organise events and manage crisis situations.
All these experiences have given me leadership, management and organisational skills.
